Live Music Video | Ghost Ship “O Holy Night”

Friday, December 30th, 2011

During December, we threw a party every weekend to worship Jesus. The aesthetics of the church were transformed and the bands started playing new arrangements of old Christmas songs. This video was shot while one of our bands, Ghost Ship, led the people of Downtown Seattle to worship through the song “O Holy Night”.
The lyrics [...]

New Music Release | Ghost Ship 4-Song EP: “A River with No End”

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

Cam Huxford doesn’t mince words. When we asked him if he was excited about releasing the first studio recording of his band, Ghost Ship, he sort of told it like it is:
“I love playing in Ghost Ship.”
This band proclaims the gospel of Jesus through music and they lead the people of Mars Hill Church Downtown [...]

What is a Creative Disciple?

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

In Seattle, everybody is creative. Think it’s just a facade? Take it from somebody who grew up near Washington D.C., where it’s common to run into 18-year-old interns in 5-piece suits rushing to get their foot in the door at a stable government job. Compared to D.C., nobody here is rushing to do anything status-quo. [...]

Gospel Story: A Confession You Weren’t Supposed to Hear

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

The staff at Mars Hill Downtown were gathering one morning for a meeting when Gareth Best, our Biblical Living Director, told a story that made our jaws drop. It all started with a phone call that he made to his wife.

Gareth and his wife Mona are expecting the birth of their first child in October. [...]

New Recording: Ghost Ship “One God” – The Story Behind the Song

Ghost Ship – “One God” by marshilldts
Stop Worshiping Splinters
I have a long history of music idolatry. I found a good thing in my life: music. The problem is that I decided to treat it as a god and worship it. All kinds of gnarly things have resulted from that.
One thing that I have seen [...]

Film & Theology: Image and Foundation in The Fighter

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

It’s appropriate that the 2010 film The Fighter scored Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor (Christian Bale) and Best Supporting Actress (Melissa Leo). The movie spends the bulk of its time not in the ring, or even sparring in preparation. Instead, it concentrates on the training that life brings to us all regarding where we [...]

Monday, June 27th, 2011

Dry Bones is a new band at the Downtown campus. Last night (June 26th) was their first time leading the campus in worship. Deacon Jeff Bettger, leader in the Artist Reformation ministry, describes the process that God used to put the band together:
God puts it all together
A few years ago, a desire began to grow [...]

Video | “Revelation” | Ghost Ship at Chop Suey

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

Gospel Party at Chop Suey
We had a great time worshiping Jesus at Chop Suey in Capitol Hill last week. 200 people came out and we raised over $1000 for International Justice Mission. It was also amazing to see over 100 Mars Hill Downtown people throw a party before the show at Piecora’s Pizza across the street. The [...]

Art at the Campus: “The Museum” – A Story of Identity and Pursuit

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

This Spring, we installed a series of artwork at the campus that was created by DT members, Maurice and Fancy Morales. God has worked mightily to bring this couple together and their story is one that illustrates how Jesus pursues and saves us. Here’s Maurice with the story:
After I first started dating my wife in [...]
